Thin For The Win. Flat pedals are a conscious choice. For aggressive turns and airtime, gravity riders need platform pedals that aren’t just flat and grippy, but also offer responsive freedom of movement without their feet being restricted by a clip-in mechanism.

But flat is not always the same as flat. Some pedals taper only at the edges, which barely improves traction. Conversely, models that are bulkier around the axle compromise grip. With the Deore XT PD-M8240 and the Saint PD-G8040, Shimano has developed two truly flat pedal models that optimize both grip and stability.

Locked In & Ready To Send It. Continuing the tradition of the Saint series, which is geared toward gravity riding, the PD-G8040 pedals are designed for peak performance in downhill, enduro and aggressive trail riding. Thanks to the extra-wide, double-concave contact surface, the shoe sits naturally on the pedal, providing a secure and controlled riding experience on steep as well as technical terrain. While the flat platform design maximizes the usable contact area, the slim profile improves ground clearance.

The impact-resistant resin bumper glides over obstacles without leaving sharp edges. Combined with the reinforced aluminum body as well as an axle and bushings known for their durability, the flat pedals effortlessly withstand repeated impacts and heavy use season after season. For maximum ease of maintenance, all individual parts of the pedals are replaceable. As the perfect complement, Shimano recommends the downhill-ready SH-GF800 gravity shoes.
